Image Scanning

This service provides high quality picture scans for images sized from 35mm, including 5x4 and 10x8 transparencies, up to A1 sized prints and artwork.

We use a dedicated scanner for scanning slides and 35mm colour or B/W negatives, and a flatbed scanner for larger transparencies and prints up to A4. Prints over A4 are photographed on a high resolution digital rostrum camera. The camera and scanners are profiled and colour managed.

Our long experience as traditional photographic printers has given us a solid background to work from when scanning images. Pictures are treated with great care and are individually scanned. They are then colour matched and digitally enhanced to give the optimum output quality for their intended use. The scans are usually supplied as RGB scans in the Adobe 98 colour space.

When submitting pictures to be scanned, it is very helpful to specify the size and resolution that the final image will be used at. For example there is no need to scan a picture to A4 and 360dpi if it is going to be used on the internet, similarly a web-res file will not produce a good looking print.
