This service provides high quality digital images from images sized from 35mm, including 5x4 and 10x8 transparencies, up to A1 sized prints and artwork.

The copying of artwork was our core business when we started in 1984 and even now with digital tools it is still a major part of our work. Making really good photographic copies is a very demanding skill and requires an intimate knowledge of photographic theory and practice. That understanding is vital when scanning or printing pictures using digital techniques too. Today, we use electronic processes to make copies from originals, whether from artwork, prints or slides. The original can be almost anything flat - an old photograph, artwork, a drawing or painting or an illustration for example. Size of original can be up A1.

We use a dedicated scanner for scanning slides and 35mm colour or B/W negatives, and a flatbed scanner for larger transparencies. Artworks are photographed on a high resolution digital rostrum camera. The camera and scanners are profiled and colour managed.

Our long experience as traditional photographic printers has given us a solid background to work from when photographing artwork. Pictures are treated with great care and are individually copied. They are then colour matched and digitally enhanced to give the optimum output quality for their intended use. The high-resolution files are usually supplied as RGB scans in the Adobe 98 colour space, low-res files for the web are supplied in the sRGB colour space.

When submitting pictures to be imaged, it is very helpful to specify the size and resolution that the final image will be used at. For example there is no need to scan a picture to A4 and 360dpi if it is going to be used on the internet, similarly a web-res file will not produce a good looking print.
